Mexborough’s first ever Music Festival has successfully raised just short of £1,800 to support the activities of Mexborough Community Campus.
Mexborough Community Campus started as a joint project run by Mexborough life Church and Mexborough Athletic Sports Club in the summer of 2015 to deliver sporting activities for the Youth of Mexborough.
The Partnership has expanded in recent years which the handover of Mexborough Youth Club to Mexborough Athletic Sports Club (Miexborough Miners Welfare Institute and Recreations Ground Charity 523779) who will operate the building under its existing charitable status. Sunday and Monday Youth Sessions are run by the staff and volunteers of Mexborough Life Church and there are plans to expand the Youth Provision to include more specific activities such as Music, bike maintenance etc.
In 2018 the unfortunate closure of the Day Centre on Harlington Road saw the service users of DMBC’s Directorate of Adults Health and Wellbeing looking for a new home. One group have found a new happy home in the Youth Club through the day and have enjoyed participating in the Campus events selling cakes, teas and coffee at both the Tour de Yorkshire and the Music Festival. A small number acted a litter pickers during the music festival and others work regularly with Mexborough life Church on community projects.
The Youth Club is also home to a number of local bands who performed free of Charge at the Music Festival to further support our efforts for community engagement and the advancement of positive community engagement. The Festival was headlined by local Rock legend Graham Oliver and the rest of Oliver Dawson Saxon. Graham remembers many happy days in the very same youth club where he honed his skills and made his first performance.
The event will continue to grow in 2019 and beyond and we thank our sponsors, Constant Security, Stelrad and not least Mezza Pizza without whom the event would not have taken place. Mezza have already committed to support the 2019 events these sponsors help ensure the events run smoothly safely and at the lowest price possible whilst maximising the charitable contributions from the event.
