After a rain delayed start the overs were reduced to 30.
Ryan Tingle won the TOSS and decided to put Darfield in to Bat.
Darfield struggled to put runs on the board and lost early wickets. The first victim falling to ex Darfield Player John Hubery.
However the arrival at the crease of Captain Waza Bird steadied the ship and Darfield posted 136 for 5, a respectable score under the conditions.
After Teas it was Mexborough turn to bat, Micheal Faley and James Hobson opened and started the score board ticking over. When Hobson was caught it was the turn of recent signing (from Darfield) Ian Hubery to step up and show his old team what they are now missing. Ian went on to post 45 runs. Michaell Faleys wicket was the next to fall and Ryan Tingle strode out to the middle unfortunately loosing his wicket after 22 Balls. However this allowed Shak Jamil to show everyone what he can do scoring 39 off just 30 balls before he was eventually caught. Rafique Hussain entered the fray. At this point the game could have gone either way but Rafi’s 19 off 16 balls, including a magnificent 6 was turning the game in Mexboroughs favour. The next wicket to fall was Ian Hubery who despite a magnificent dive to the line was run out. It was now Danny Jenkinsons turn to make his way to the middle and steer the ship home. The last over arrived with Mexborough needing 3 to win. Jenkinson did not disappoint, launching the ball into a gap and nearly finding the boundary. Good running from both Hussain and Jenkinson saw 3 runs completed before the fielding side were able to return the ball. Game Over, Mexborough, recently promoted to the 3rd Division started the season with a hard fought win. Hopefully the first of many with the 1st team targeting back to back promotions.
