Sat 31st Oct saw Mexborough Athletic Sports Club host a childrens film party. This was part of the Miners Welfare Community Campus project.
‘Mexborough Community Campus’, is a partnership project, drawing together like minded organisations who long to see community regeneration and restored hope in our town.
The ‘Campus’ vision arises from the physical location of two of the key partners, Mexborough Miners’ Welfare and Athletic Club, and Mexborough Life Church and Centre, on New Oxford Road in Mexborough. For some time these two organisations along with Doncaster Council’s Youth Service, who operate a youth centre on the same site, have been in discussion about how they can come together, to complement each other’s work and together have a greater impact than they could working alone.
Around 40 children plus parents attended the film party and kept the face painter busy creating at least 60 Halloween Monsters. The event was staffed and supported by volunteers from Mexborough Athletic Sports Club, Mexborough Cricket Club, DMBC Youth Services, DMBC Stronger Communities and South Yorkshire Police.
The fun moved from the Sports Club into the Youth Centre where around a further 18 young people participated in a number of Halloween themed activities.
Activities where funded in part by grants from South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner and DMBC ‘Anticipate’ funding.
